  • Collins was born in 1788 and although not a Victorian painter is important because he established the tradition of picturesque rustic landscape scenes carried on by Shayer and many others. His father was Morland's biographer and it was Morland who gave Collins his first lessons.Collins entered The Royal Academy Schools in 1807 and began exhibiting his work that year. He exhibited 124 paintings at the Royal Academy from 1807 to 1846. He also exhibited 45 paintings at the British Institute. His works are in the Victorian and Albert Museum and the Tate Britain and many other galleries and museums. He is still much collected.
